Diplomats’ understanding of international investment issues is crucial to improving foreign direct investment in their own state and helping their nationals invest in foreign states with less risk. This can result in better development internationally.
This course focuses on bilateral investment treaties, free trade agreements, arbitration, international finance of foreign investment, and political risk insurance. By combining legal foundations with real-world scenarios, participants will learn how to support better foreign direct investment into the state, both qualitatively and quantitatively, and help their own home-state investors to invest abroad, engage in arbitration processes, and collaborate with financial institutions and political risk insurers to advance national economic interests abroad.
