The course explores the multiple ways and means used in multilateral diplomacy, with emphasis on the complexity of the UN work, the most legitimate international organisation with a universal vocation. Participants will be guided in all aspects of the multilateral meetings and the processes leading to the adoption of legally binding or politically meaningful documents for global governance. Several case studies will help understand the way international interaction is carried out and what realistic reforms might be expected. The course blends an academic perspective with the experience of a practitioner with a long-standing career in multilateral diplomacy.
