Sustainable development is central to addressing today’s interconnected global challenges, from conflict and economic instability to climate change and inequality. With 2030 approaching and progress on many targets lagging, advancing the sustainable development goals (SDGs) depends on effective development cooperation, informed policy choices, and strong international partnerships.
This course introduces the foundations, instruments, and evolving practices of international development cooperation. It examines the structure and implementation of the 2030 Agenda, the role of key actors, including diplomats, international organisations and practitioners, and the perspectives of both provider and partner countries. Participants will engage with major policy debates, including questions of effectiveness, financing for development, equity, and shifting global priorities.
Designed for diplomats, policymakers, and development professionals, the course equips participants with the knowledge and analytical tools to support informed decision-making, strengthen cooperation, and contribute to advancing sustainable development across diverse global contexts.
This course can be further deepened through two specific courses: one on the Humanitarian–Development–Peace Nexus and another, a practical one, on the Core Tools of Development Cooperation.
